Liepaja - Palanga trip
Liepaja is the third largest city in Latvia and is located near Lithuanian border. Also is the closest Latvian city to the beautiful Palanga.
One of my trips included visiting Latvian city - Liepaja. It's third largest city in Latvia, located right by the seashore.
It was late autumn and the weather was quite windy. Here we are by the sea.
This is a very windy place so you can see many trees have been knocked down by the storms.
This is a reason why they've put so many wind turbines here.
You feel really tiny standing under them. And can almost feel the wind they create while rotating.
It's even possible to drive close to some of them.
Victoria and here friend. These are my guides here.
There's a place called "Karosta". It was a small war district. This place is very important due to its central location in the Baltic Sea and the fact that it does not ice over in winter.
Karosta's shores are littered with abandoned fortifications.
When the Russian army left Latvia in 1994 after Latvian independence, Karosta became largely uninhabited and most structures fell to ruin.
This is an ideal place for creative photography.
But every year it goes deeper and deeper in to the water so in a few year time there will be much less to see.
At its height Karosta was home to over 20,000 people.
Some building have fallen down or bent due to the ground being washed into the sea.
This photo was taken in 2009. Now, in 2012 this window has completely drown in to the water.
Karosta district, Liepaja, Latvia.
Huge abandoned tunnels.
After Liepaja we headed for Palanga.
It was unusual to see it so empty.
The weather was also kind of cold.
But that didn't bother us.
Famous Palangas pier.
During summer time this place is full of tourists and locals.
And this is our favorite dog. I just love retrievers.
My photo. :)
Don't remember having them in Latvia.
On our way back to Liepaja we've visited a great restaurant and resort place.
First of all it had a great collection of old cars.
Most of them were soviet cars.
Also there's a great park with many huge wooden animal figures.
Now this is creative.
We've had a lot of fun there. By the way the food was excellent and all prices just superb. I'll definitely come back again. This was a great weekend.
An ear. :)comments powered by Disqus
