Since I'm living so close to Scandinavian countries in was really a shame I've never visited them. So - some thing needed to be changed..
At the end of the summer 2009 I've decided to take a trip through some Scandinavian cities like Stockholm in Sweden, Helsinki in Finland and Tallinn in Estonia.
The whole trip would take three days - each day in a different city. Here we are embarking.
Riga port. Doesn't look promising to be honest.
So here I am - starting my trip. First I would be taken on a ferry to Stockholm.
I would spend a day there and then go on a different ferry to Helsinki..
..where I would switch ferries again and go on a third ferry to Tallinn, from which I would be taken by a bus back to Riga.
So here's the plan for the next three days. Here I am leaving Riga and entering Baltic sea.
The weather was nice so I spent most of the time on a deck. Enjoying beautiful Baltic sea.
The next day - closing in to Stockholm.
Typical streets of Stockholm.
It kind of looks like Riga a little but more European I would say.
Here is The Stockholm Palace or as some say the Royal Palace. Doesn't really look like a palace to me.
Accidentally came across a parade.
I've enjoyed this beautiful city for a while and then it was time to go see my second ferry.
It was much larger and to be honest the best ferry I've been on in my life.
It was 14 storeys high and had it's own bowling, cinemas, aqua park, street with different restaurants and much much more. Really an amazing ferry and much better than the one that goes from Riga to Stockholm.
Here is the main street that goes right through the center of the ship. Looks stunning.
Leaving Stockholm. Such a beautiful nature.
People are having fun.
It looks like we're not the only ones here.
Islands near Stockholm, Sweden.
Sea waters near Stockholm are amazing. So many beautiful islands. Many of them are uninhabited.
The next morning I've reached Helsinki.
Welcome to Finland. Sitting in the city center and thinking what to see and visit.
Helsinki look like a cute, beautiful city.
Beautiful Helsinki Cathedral. It is an Evangelical Lutheran cathedral of the Diocese of Helsinki.
Here I am exploring Helsinki. So far this is my favorite city in Scandinavia. Really modern, clean, European, nature friednly and very beautiful.
You can feel how it stands on a rocky ground. Many cliffs and huge rocks are located right in the center of the town.
National opera in Helsinki.
Some kind of a street market.
Later that day I was already on my third ferry heading for the Tallinn. It was just a two hour trip since there is about 80km distance from Tallinn to Helsinki.
And here is the harbor in Tallinn. Much smaller than the one in Helsinki but still..
..large enough to accept such huge ships like this one. Unfortunately this wasn't the one I came on.
Here is our Baltic princess that had brought me to Tallinn.
I've spent the next day in Tallinn, exploring the city, even though it looked very similar to my hometown Riga only a little bit smaller.
It has it's own old town which is located in the very center of Tallinn.
Since the weather was nice I really enjoyed it and even met a nice couple from America.
Main square right in front of the old town.
Found a great place to chill and decide where to go next.
Old town is almost identical to the one in Riga. Maybe buildings are in different colors.
Taking a final look on a town before going for the bus that will bring me back home.comments powered by Disqus
