Hill of Crosses in Lithuania
A small one day trip to Lithuania to visit world famous "Hill of Crosses". It's located just outside Lithuanian city "Saulai" and is about 40 km away from the Latvian border.
Since I am living so close to Lithuania I just had to visit world famous Hill of Crosses which is located just 40 km away from the Latvian border.
And here it is.
Hill of Crosses, Lithuania.
The exact number of crosses is unknown, but estimates put it at about 55,000 in 1990 and 100,000 in 2006. Hard to imagine how much it is now in 2012.
It is believed that the first crosses were placed on the Domantai hill fort after the 1831 Uprising (Polish–Russian War).
Now it is a good tradition to leave a cross if you visit this place so here is mine.
Since we were in Lithuania we decided to continue our trip and visit Palanga as well.
It wasn't the best weather that day but still you can feel summer spirit in the air.
Pier in Palanga.
Heading back home to Riga, Latvia.comments powered by Disqus
